NHS de-liver-ed scans in our community.
Wow! What a great day! 20 people from our community had their liver health checked, by the NHS portable scanner with West Yorkshire liver care ODN, at the West End centre. A team from the NHS West Yorkshire Liver care were on hand to talk to us about liver-health and what the difference is between a healthy & unhealthy liver. One of the things that came out of our conversations was that we do not drink enough water and how this effects our organs. This is plain water, not te

A Taste of Italy comes to visit the West End Centre
What is a Frittata, you told us you thought it was a posh omelette cooked in the oven.  Cooking group discovered that is pretty much what it is and a great way to use up all your leftovers of veg.   It is originally an Italian dish! This versatile quick and easy dish can be made to individual taste, add some spicey chorizo or anything else you fancy! Lots of preparation on this dish so we all mucked in peeling and chopping the veggies, grating the cheese and beating the egg

Meeting at the centre and travelling by bus we had a 15 minute walk to the museum, we were that busy talking we forgot to monitor our steps!! but any extra steps is all good! We found out that the museum was inside Moorside Mill which used to be a Worsted Mill. The Museum includes transport, textile machinery and you can experience what houses were like in different eras, we e

The walkers started the adventure together and got the bus to Bradford town centre, then train to Leeds. What an adventure navigating around Leeds train station to

West End Walkers enjoy a favourite: Wibsey Park
Hi Ho Hi Ho off for a walk we go....The walkers were off again on a local favourite to Wibsey Park. A walk around the lake, said hello to the ducks, a go on the swings and some time getting to grips with the outdoor exercise machines. It's a fun way to some exercise. The Cafe at Wibsey park is been done up but there was still a place to sit to enjoy a cuppa! D - I love to walk but I don't do too much on my own, this gives me the chance to get some extra longer walks in dif

Memory Friends Cafe: Place to met, relax and just be yourself!!
Earlier this year NHS Dementia Link Worker Megan held a session at the centre, explaining her role within the community for part of the NHS Dementia team. The first session was around raising awareness of Dementia and how to get support if needed. We had a lot of interest in holding a Memory Friends’ group at the centre. The seed was planted, staff and volunteers attended dementia training, and our first Memory Friend’s Café at the centre was on Monday 29 th September. Our f

A Trip into the Mediterranean: Beef Kofta with Orzo
Cooking Group experienced a taste of a Turkish dish of beef Kofta and orzo which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Kofta is a spin on the humble meatball. It’s amazing how an everyday meatball can be made more delicious by adding different spices and for this Kofta we used paprika and oregano. Some people had never tasted orzo but were pleasantly surprised and said they would definitely buy it and try it at home. You told us S Never had orzo before, didn’t know it existed,  diff
