Our Cooking Group continues to be a great place where people come together, sharing experiences and skills, to learn new techniques and build confidence in preparing and cooking meals.

The fruits of our labours!
The fruits of our labours!

Making the crustless quiche gave everyone the chance to see how chopping vegetables and different ingredients work together to create a tasty and nutritious meal, and how you can use what you have left over in your fridge, which means less food waste. The chickpea salad introduced new flavors and ideas for creating quick, healthy dishes that can easily be made at home.

One of the best things about our cooking group is the way they share their own tips, experiences, and recipes. Whether someone is learning a skill for the first time or passing on knowledge they've gained over many years, everyone has something valuable to contribute.  It always turns into a lively conversation with lots of laughter.

The lunch was enjoyed by all, and it was great to see pride in what had been created. Sessions like these are much more than cooking, they help us to connect, make new friends, and gain the confidence to try new things.

This is what you told us

R - I have been cooking for years and have good knife skills, but I have learnt a new chopping technique today! I enjoy sharing my skills with others but it was good learn something new.
M - Good group, everybody had a job to do and it all came together in the end.
D - Never made this before really enjoyed it
RA - I have not had this before was really nice, was vegetarian and something I can cook at home for my family
DP - A good budget recipe can use up things you already have in. A busy session got me out of my comfort zone but I really enjoyed it, lots of chatting and laughter.
K - Best chickpea salad I've ever had.

Here's the recipe for the quiche if you would like to try it at home do let us know how you get on!

Crustless Quiche

The recipe is great for using up what you have left in the fridge, and is the one cup method.  This is a vegetarian recipe but you could add bacon, ham, chorizo etc if you wished to do so.

Ingredients

1 cup self raising flour

1 cup of eggs (4 eggs)

Tablespoon of milk

1 cup of cheese

1 cup peppers

1 cup onion

1 cup of any other veg you may have

Season to taste

Method

Oven 180c

Whisk the eggs together with the milk

In a separate bowl add all the other ingredients and mix

Add the milk and egg mixture – combine

Place in a non stick or use grease proof paper in an oven dish and cook for 25 to 30 mins so it goes brown and has a slight wobble in the middle

Our cooking group is taking a short break but we will be back, watch our social media for an update or you can ring us on 07503184713.
