It’s Christmassssssssssssssssss!

Time to visit York and the legendary Christmas Market.   Trying new things and visiting new places at the same time getting extra steps in!

West End Walkers travelled to Bradford Interchange, purchased our train tickets and set off on our adventure to York Christmas Market.

All of us walked to York Minster where we saw the Rose window, which was destroyed by fire in 1984 but after 4 years of restoration is a spectacular sight to see.

After grabbing a bite to eat and watching street entertainers we hit the Christmas Market.

Lots of Festive cheer surrounded us, stalls selling beautiful Christmas ornaments and hand-crafted gifts, food and drinks aplenty.

Everyone enjoyed visiting York and after we completed around 5000 steps each, which is around 3.5 miles would take you from the centre to Thornton the Birth place of the Bronte Sisters. We were worn out so headed to Costa for much needed refreshments before our return journey home.

The day was about going somewhere new, having fun, trying new things and getting some extra steps in!

This is what you told us

J- I have enjoyed today, and I am glad I came. I have been able to buy 3 Christmas presents.
H- I really enjoy spending time socialising, and I have really enjoyed the whole trip to the market.
C- It was a really nice day as York is an interesting place. I enjoyed everyone’s company. The length of time we were out, was just right.
D- The trip was my first time in York, and I enjoyed it because I was around others instead of being on my own at home. I got some walking in and really enjoyed the hot chocolate with brandy and marshmallows. I would have liked to have stayed out longer.
DB- I liked going around all the different stalls at the Christmas Market but also enjoyed stuff like the Shambles and York Minster although it was a bit stressful having to walk together in such a large group. I was happy when Emma suggested we split into 2 smaller groups.
B- I liked the fact that I covered a lot of walking in York and my steps increased when compared to a normal day. I bought some seasonal drinks  and a cute cate figurine which represented my own cat. The variety of decorated windows was nice. Next time, I would like to suggest that we visit the Manchester Christmas markets.
