Safe Internet Day

At the centre we are always talking about how you can stay safe online whether you are using a laptop or pc at the centre or using your mobile phone or tablet out and about or at home, the basic rules are always the same.

  • Create strong and secure passwords and change it regularly

  • Do not use the same password across all your accounts

  • Clear the computer cache

  • Do not link all your accounts together

  • Keep your antivirus up to date

  • protect a wireless internet with a password

  • Make purchases only on a secure site (https)

Social media is a great way to stay in touch with family and friends and keep up on the latest news but It's worth exercising some caution when using social media. Not everyone using social media is necessarily who they say they are. Take a moment to check if you know the person and if the friend or link is genuine. If in doubt ask someone - "together for a better internet"


A few tips to staying safe on social media.


  • Set your profiles to private

  • Remember anything you post can be shared

  • Recognise the fakes.

  • Spring clean your contacts

  • Block anyone who bothers you

  • Protect your identity

  • Be selective with friend requests
