Pork Pies caught our eyes, and discovering the hidden gems of RHS Harlow-Carr

The Allotment and walking group and #yorkshiremandan joined forces for a trip out to get some fresh air, enjoy nature and get some steps in. RHS Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire was our destination.

Harlow Carr is The Royal Horticultural Society Garden in Harrogate with specially designed gardens which include a wide variety of plants, tropical gardens, indoor rockery, maze (we only briefly lost Razina!) and lots of walks around the gardens and through woodlands. There was an area for growing fruit and veg with raised beds and fruit cages which was of an interest to the gardeners amongst us! We took some great ideas away for our Community Allotment. The rain held off so we were able to enjoy our packed lunch in the outdoor seating area. The group decided another trip was needed in the summer to see how different the landscape would be with all the different flowers.

The day was rounded off with a visit into Otley, calling in to locally famous butchers shop for a very tasty pork pie and a look around the charity shop.

Sandra told us “I would not have come here without this group, nice to get out of Bradford into a different place, some interesting plants and good ideas for our allotment next season. Had a good day plenty of laughter, exercise and the fresh air”

Razina told us “Nice walk, nice time with my friends, thank you”

K told us “Really enjoyed my day out, somewhere new, lovely atmosphere, nice to be outside, the trip to Otley really rounded off the day. A new adventure and I got myself a new hat for the winter!

Stephen told us “Liked looking around the gardens, would like to come back in the summer again, had a good laugh with my friends”

A big thank you to everyone at RHS Harlow Carr for having us, we will be back!
