No child should go hungry-Day 3

Updated: Oct 30, 2020

Well its day 3 already and what a day it’s been! Packed lunches today included a brioche roll, cheese dip and bread sticks, crisps, juice, jelly tub and piece of fruit. We also received generous donations of tarka dhal and rice and chicken masala and rice. Many thanks to Apma Khana catering and as always to the Basra family who have been inspirational in getting our community fed.

We at the West End Centre have put together 'make your own' bread packs, complete with all the ingredients and an easy to follow recipe so that children can have fun baking at home. So we had food and activities today.

At the Centre we have our mobile community lunch club on a Wednesday. Homemade, two course lunches have been delivered to some of our more isolated friends in the community who can’t attend the Centre at the moment because of Covid 19. We also took freshly baked buns made by our very own Irene, she’s a star, she bakes for the community every single week and has done since the beginning of lockdown.

The Westenders are busy making poppies for our tree of hope. We decorated our tree in the spring with messages of hope and crafted decorations made by our West End friends. We are now going to decorate it with poppies for remembrance and peace.

If all that wasn’t enough for a Wednesday we are also delivering week 11 packs to our Weigh to go healthy eating group. This group supports each other as they try to improve their health and wellbeing by making healthier choices and increasing physical exercise.

So 70 Children fed today and 32 parents. 25 homemade hot meals delivered with buns, that's 127 people going to bed with full bellies tonight. Time to put the feet up team!

Well done everyone and roll on Day 4.
