The Bashir family and the West End Centre worked together for the second day this half term to feed the community.
Today 60 children and 22 parents received a free lunch. There was Pizza, Devon Custard pots or Rice Pudding, yoghurts, Carrot Sticks, fruit, biscuits and a carton of juice. After the demand on day 1 we realised that not only children were going hungry but parents were too.
How can you be the best parent you can be if you and your children are hungry. So today we also offered Dhal and rice or a lovely homemade vegetable soup and granary roll which was much appreciated. A couple of the comments we received -
“Thank you so much my children will be very happy”
“This means so much you are such lovely people”
It’s so sad to see how many people have been affected and need this help. No one should have to go hungry in this day and age.
We have been inspired by the Basra family who have come forward to help others and feed the community this half term.
We have also met some wonderful families and hope we are making half term a little bit better for them this year.
We will let you know how day 3 goes tomorrow.
