How many of us still bake our own bread? speaking to people at the centre not many of us it seems as its so cheap and easy to buy from the shop, but there is just something about the smell of homemade bread that you just can’t beat.
Thank you to Kitty’s Kits and Food Savers network for the donation of bread kits which has given us the opportunity for us to run several breadmaking sessions allowing people to have ago at making their own bread. We made bread rolls and loaves in our Pick and Mix group, Focaccia with pictures using vegetables in our art group, and bread rolls at the community allotments cooked on a BBQ!
We have given out bread kits for people to take and try at home and to send us photos of how they got on. What this space!
Anita told us “Well I’ve seen it all now, cooking bread rolls at the allotment on a BBQ, anything is possible. Was very therapeutic kneading the bread, not done that in such a long time enjoyed it and the old skills are still there!”
Jyoti told us “I often make chapattis, but I have never made bread and I was very surprised at how easy it was. I enjoyed it, would never have thought of using vegetables to make a picture it looks so nice and tasted amazing. I will now be trying to make my own bread at home!”
Dian told us “The bread I have made before is a loaf or a roll, not made focaccia using veg to make a nice picture. There is so much you can do with the mix, tastes better than shop as you made it yourself. We all helped each other as some people didn’t know how to knead the bread or have never made bread before at all”
Sandra told us using a bread mix is so easy makes you want to do it yourself at home. I enjoyed making the different bread it was like artwork using the vegetables to make a picture, not something I ever thought I would be doing.
Lorraine told us I’ve bread myself a lot, so I helped Stephen who has never made it before, I showed him how to bring it all together and knead it. I haven’t laughed this much in over a year.
