St Oswald’s West End Centre celebrates after receiving nearly £313,000 from the National Lottery!

St Oswald's West End Centre celebrates after receiving nearly £313,000 from the National Lottery to work with their community to reduce isolation, improve access to the internet and to support and help each other.

Local community group, The West End Centre, is today celebrating after being awarded £313,000 in National Lottery funding to support its work with people across the community. The group, based in Little Horton Bradford, runs a range of groups and activities that respond to the wants and needs of the community and welcomes people from across Bradford.

The Centre has been running since 2005 and has evolved with the help of its clients. Lots of people start off attending the centre and then go on to volunteer, helping others and getting involved in the everyday running and future development of projects.

Although the West End Centre’s building is closed due to the Covid 19 restrictions, staff and volunteers work together to offer support to each other and members of the community. We look forward to a time when we can welcome new friends in person. Until then if anyone would like to join in any of the following activities please contact Fran: 07743687053 or Kathryn: 07592003595

If we are unable to answer just leave your details and we will get back to you.

The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK, will help us to deliver these groups and plan new groups ones. We are so excited. We can’t wait! Our members tell us that the thing they are looking forward to most is being able to meet and talk to others. We have great plans for new and exciting activities including lots going on at our Community Allotment.

Christine Mann Centre Manager says: “We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognized our work in this way. Now, thanks to National Lottery players we will be able to increase our groups and activities. To reach out and welcome more people and work together to continue to build a strong and resilient community in which people feel safe, are valued and help each other. This is important because it makes a real difference to people’s lives and is helping people to survive this terrible pandemic. We, together, have much work to do to help each other recover from its impact. People are struggling with isolation, mental health, digital exclusion, unemployment. We now have the opportunity to help to address these problems. Thank you to everyone who plays the National Lottery.”

“I just want to say a big thank you to everyone at the centre. It changed my life, without the support that we give each other it would be hard. Especially in these difficult times we are going through. So a very big thank you to each and every one of you. Thank you for being such a wonderful family, that's what you are to me my family.” John H
