Welcome to our monthly spotlight on volunteers blog.
The centre simply wouldn't be the same without our volunteers who are involved in most aspects of the running of the West End Centre, from forums and consultations, befriending, cooking, cleaning, supporting learners, admin, helping out at the allotment and looking after our grounds.
Since the first lock down in March 2020 we have had several WhatsApp groups up and running to help keep us connected, share information and have a laugh. A lot of people showed an interest in local history and so a separate group was set up and became known as 'the History Buffs'.
This group is open to everyone and has attracted many people who have never been to the centre, but enjoy the historical focus of this group.
Volunteer Kev is a long time friend of the West End Centre and has taken on much of the responsibility for running the group on a daily basis by sharing photo challenges, maps, his huge knowledge of history and the local area, supporting others and his great sense of humour! We are all learning new things, enjoying the distraction, and if we manage to get one of Kev's questions right we are rewarded with a virtual toffee!!
So a big thank you to our Kev for keeping us entertained and on our toes!
The Group also have a quiz on a Thursday evenings at 7pm which covers various subjects- not just history, its more about getting people together and enjoying rather than winning! If you think you would like to join this group for the history or/and the quiz contact Kathryn on 07592003595.
