A hot day at the allotment plenty of shade, water and sun cream. We have had a day of celebration, both Heather and Kim have birthdays coming up, so our “Allotment choir” sang Happy Birthday and we all enjoyed some cake.
Watering has been essential during this hot weather; between us we have spent a lot of time ensuring all beds are watered and the plants in the poly tunnel watered well. We do need to say a big thank you to the volunteers that come in on evenings and weekends at this time of year to ensure that all the plants are kept well hydrated.
We received a donation of around 50 tomato seedlings from an anonymous friend of the centre, we have now potted these into larger pots. Some of these will be taken home with the allotment volunteers to grow on and enjoy the fruits, the rest will be grown at the allotment and the tomatoes will be eaten by our volunteers, taken to the centre, and used in our lunches or in our green food bank. Thank you for the donation, it really is appreciated.
Sandra told us “It was a hot one today, but we had plenty of shade, lots of chatter and laughter we always have fun. Enjoyed the birthday cake too!”
Rodney told us “I have only been coming for a few weeks and I have been made so welcome, everyone is very friendly, and I am learning new things every time I come, the company is really helps me as I live alone. I’ve enjoyed getting out and meeting new people”.
