A Busy Monday at the Centre: A Day of Community and Wellbeing

We had such a buzz in the centre yesterday with nearly 50 visitors passing through our doors, just how we like it!

As always the day started with our Monday Market up to 15 items for £5 and free bag of fresh fruit and veg. Our shoppers and visitors also enjoying egg or beans on toast, crumpets or toast and jam and a cuppa on the house! A place to pass the time of day and put the world to rights with good company.

Charlie from the NHS Hepatitis C team at the BRI joined us to talk about Liver health and do a finger prick test to check for Hepatitis C. 21 of us had the test done and we are pleased to say we are all negative. Charlie will be back with mid October with the NHS Liver Scanner Van, we can call in and get our Liver health checked. We find from talking to people that bringing these things into the centre can remove a barrier and people are more likely to learn more and take the tests in a more relaxed community centre environment.

And that was not all, Beauty from The Green Doctor came into talk to us about energy saving in our home. The resources available were in multiple languages and everyone were sharing their views with lots of chatter around the room. .

At this time of year we know it can be a choice between heating or eating for some so these tips from The Green Doctor should help us to save energy in our homes and hopefully save money.

It was great to see so many of you getting involved in our different sessions, and supporting the centre and this is what you told us

K- It was nice to know what I am doing at home is the right thing to save energy/money
DD-Putting foil behind radiators on an outside wall is a good ways to retain heat in the house

P- I would never have gone for the Hepatitis C test but it was made very easy for me to do this whilst I was at the Centre.
CS-I didn't even know the Hepatitis C test was a thing and it was so straight forward very similar to a covid test with the results in 10 minutes.

D- I now understand that I could have Hepatitis c and have no systems so doing these tests in the community, making accessible and easier for people is a really good idea

You can order a Hepatitis C NHS test online to do yourself just follow the link below, we are here to help with this if you need it.

Want to know more about what we do at the centre you can call in or give us a ring on 07592003595.
