ABOUT US
WHAT AND WHY?
The West End Centre is a purpose built modern community centre based within St Oswald’s Church.
The Centre is financially independent and distinct from it. The Centre serves all sections of the local community and welcomes people of different faiths, cultures and ability levels.
It is a Registered Charity and Company Ltd by Guarantee. We are based in Little Horton, Bradford. The Centre opened in May 2005.
It has developed provision in line with the needs and wants of the local community.
We have a range of groups and activities delivered in the heart of the community.
WHAT WE DO
We develop the capacity and skills of the members of the socially and economically disadvantaged local community of Little Horton and the City of Bradford in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet their needs and participate more fully in society.
We promote social 'inclusion' by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and helping them to integrate into society. This benefits the community, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious opinions.
BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Volunteers are central to the development and success of the West End Centre. They help to decide what activities are of interest to the community. They have done this by taking part in community consultations and evaluating the groups and activates in the centre.
They help to deliver the groups and activities by setting up and clearing away equipment, helping to prepare food, supporting learners and even cleaning and decorating the centre.
We also provide placements for students seeking to gain practical experience in a community setting. This enables you to explore how theory and practice fit together. We work closely with Bradford College, and offer placements to a range of students from level 1 to undergraduates and post graduate students.
